What We’re Looking For
We want to promote Northland to visitors, so we’re looking for photos that capture what makes our region worth visiting.
Photos that work well
- People are great – people doing things in nice places – get permission first!
- Local Spots – your favourite places – mountains, beaches, coastlines, forests, islands, rivers and lakes.
- Towns and villages – street scenes, local character, markets, cafes
- Outdoor activities – fishing, kayaking, surfing, hiking, camping, diving
- Wildlife and nature – birds, marine life, native bush
- Cultural and heritage sites – historic buildings, Māori cultural sites (photographed respectfully and with appropriate permissions)
- Food and hospitality – local produce, restaurants, farmers’ markets, vineyards
- Events and festivals – community gatherings, local celebrations
- Hidden gems – lesser-known spots that deserve more attention
It is important that you read all the terms and conditions before entering
You are agreeing to a number of different things, including but not limited to;
- Rights to use your photos
- Verification that subjects in photos have given permission
- Eligibility requirements for the competition
Photos that don’t work as well
- Photos focused primarily on people rather than place (People doing things is great but we don’t need a close up of your Auntie)
- Indoor shots with no sense of location
- AI generated photos are not eligible for entry
- Photos that could have been taken anywhere
- Heavily filtered or unrealistic edits that misrepresent the location
- Photos with distracting elements like rubbish, power lines, or crowded car parks
Think like a visitor: Would this photo make someone want to come to Northland? Does it show something unique about our region? Could it work on the cover of a travel brochure or in a guide book?
